What is Binge-a-thon, you ask? Binge-a-thon is a competition between SCAD Radio DJs to see who can stay awake at the radio station for the longest time. In previous years, the contestants were limited to just the studio, but since the studio in our new space is approximately the size and shape of a cardboard box, we’re going to open it up to the whole station.

The more I look at this picture of our studio, the more I believe it may just be a cardboard box.

I, Tony Echevarría, will be the host of Binge-a-thon, giving listeners live updates of all the going-ons in the station when the Binge-a-thon contestants aren’t infiltrating our weekend DJs’ shows. In a battle to outlast the others, there will be fierce competition, deception, espionage, and slow decent into chaos and madness as weekend progresses. It will be much like Survivor, or Family Feud.

I keep having to remind these guys that we can't light tiki torches in the station.

Crites Collective
  Crites Collective is run by a small group of SCAD students that are pushing to make an environment for SCAD’s own musical talent.  Not only are they opening up opportunities for musicians, but since the performances are in Crites that means that any SCAD student can attend without worrying about age restrictions! Enough babbling from me, I’ll let them tell you about themselves.

1) How did Crites Collective start? Who started it and why?

At the end of Winter Quarter 2012, Ross Fish decided we could really utilize the great spaces at Crites Hall by creating an awesome environment for musicians of all genres to play their music, as well as opening up a music scene to the SCAD student body. Fish began collaborating with Professor Margo Ames, who is the creator of the Music Composition Department here at SCAD Savannah, and immediately Crites Collective had a crew: Ross Fish as Curator, Eolyne Arnold as Promoter, Steven Lane as Webmaster, and Professor Ames as Advisor.

2) What are your goals for this project?

The goal for this project is to create a relaxed setting and great opportunity for SCAD students to get the experience of performing their music. We also hope to get the word out enough so that we end up developing a true music scene for SCAD students.

3) How did the first night go?

The first night, which was the “Indie-Rock Showcase,” was better than we expected! We all had confidence the show would happen and we knew some people were coming out, but SCAD students really responded to our efforts and we actually had people coming up to us saying we should do this every week!

4) When is the next one and who is performing?

The next concert is the “Singer/ Songwriter Showcase,” THIS SATURDAY MAY 12th. Still at 7:30 PM, Crites Hall, 3rd floor.

The SCAD Performing Arts Department presents Anon(ymous), a contemporary adaptation by Naomi Iizuka of Homer’s The Odyssey, directed by SCAD professor David Storck. Performances run are May 5 at 8 p.m. and May 6 at 3 p.m. at Arnold Hall (1810 Bull Street). Tickets are $10 general admission or $5 with a valid senior, student, or military, or SCAD ID. TWELVE DANCING PRINCESSES

The Savannah Children’s Theatre presents a new version of the Grimm Brothers’ fairy tale The Twelve Dancing Princesses.  Remaining performances are May 5 and 6 at 3 p.m. (2160 E. Victory Dr.).
