Four years ago I came to SCAD, naïve to the ways of music and style. Indie and folk were not popular sounds where I had grown up, so the Savannah music scene gave me my first glimpse of music with feeling–music by a local happy folk-rock band called General Oglethorpe & The Panhandlers. For years, this band has been a staple in the Savannah music scene, and last night they had their final, farewell show. Hundreds of people showed up to dance, sing, and support them on their exit from the stage. To be honest, I don’t feel I’m fit to write any review of the show or the band, but I do want to say a big “thank you” to to the band. I will always remember the good times and great music, the fun and entertaining shows, and the awesome personalities of all of General O’s members. I wish you all the best in whatever endeavors you pursue, and I hope that one day you will come back home to Savannah and perform, for all of us, one last song.
